Description

A highly collectable 1:144 scale diecast representation of Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress G-BEDF “Sally B”, one of Britain's best-known preserved American heavy bombers. Released as part of the early Corgi Aviation Archive range, model 48202 recreates the aircraft in its United States Army Air Forces tribute markings.

The aircraft now known as Sally B was constructed during 1945 as B-17G serial 44-85784. It did not enter combat before the end of the Second World War and later passed through several civilian roles before being brought to Britain.

The aircraft was restored and developed as a flying memorial to the thousands of American airmen who served from bases in Britain. It carries the civilian registration G-BEDF while being displayed in wartime-style USAAF markings.

Sally B is painted to represent aircraft 41-24485 and carries the squadron codes DF-A. The olive-drab and neutral-grey finish, prominent USAAF national insignia and colourful Sally B nose artwork create the classic appearance associated with an Eighth Air Force Flying Fortress.

The Boeing B-17 earned its Flying Fortress name through its extensive defensive armament and ability to absorb significant battle damage. It became one of the principal American heavy bombers used during the daylight strategic bombing campaign over Europe.

This Corgi release features extensive diecast construction, transparent cockpit and gun-position glazing, detailed defensive machine guns, four rotating propellers, removable landing gear and the original multi-position Aviation Archive display stand.

Grading

Grading Criteria

Our grading is based mainly on the physical condition of the model itself, including paintwork, attached parts, repairs, visible wear and overall presentation. Box condition and missing separate accessories are noted separately where applicable.

Mint (10/10)
- As new, with no visible flaws to the model itself.

Near Mint (9/10)
- Very light signs of handling, storage or display only.

Excellent (8/10)
- Light wear or a few tiny marks, but still displays very well.

Very Good (7/10)
- Noticeable wear, small chips or rubs, but still presentable as a display piece.

Good (6/10)
- Obvious overall wear, visible marks or paint loss; better suited as a display or filler piece.

Fair (5/10)
- Heavy wear, larger areas of paint loss, repairs or clearly visible flaws.

Spares / Repairs (4/10 or below)
- Significant damage, missing attached parts, broken components or best suited for restoration/spares.

If a separate accessory, stand, leaflet, certificate or optional part is missing, this will be mentioned in the listing notes. The model may still receive a high grade if the model itself remains in strong condition.
