Description

A rare and substantial 1:144 scale diecast representation of Boeing 377 Stratocruiser N404Q, operated by Transocean Airlines during the closing years of piston-powered transatlantic passenger service. Released as part of the Corgi Aviation Archive Collector Series, model 48106 was produced as a limited edition of only 2,800 pieces worldwide.

Transocean acquired a fleet of former BOAC Stratocruisers for charter and scheduled services. Four aircraft, including N404Q, were placed into transatlantic operation during the late 1950s, linking New York with destinations including Dublin, Shannon and London Gatwick.

N404Q operated several of these demanding North Atlantic flights and concluded Transocean's 1959 programme with a Gatwick to Shannon and New York service. The high cost of operating the large Stratocruisers proved difficult for the airline, and the type's Transocean career remained comparatively brief.

The model recreates N404Q in the company's attractive white, polished natural-metal and yellow colour scheme. Bold TRANSOCEAN AIR LINES lettering runs along the fuselage, while the yellow tail carries the airline's winged globe emblem.

The Boeing 377 combined the military C-97's large fuselage with a specially developed luxury passenger interior. Its pressurised main cabin, lower-deck lounge and sleeping accommodation made it one of the most spacious and distinctive long-distance airliners of the early post-war era.

Limited to 2,800 pieces worldwide, this Corgi release features extensive diecast construction, authentic N404Q markings, clear cockpit glazing and permanently printed cabin windows. Additional features include four rotating propellers, removable landing gear and the original Corgi Aviation Archive presentation display stand.

Grading

Grading Criteria

Our grading is based mainly on the physical condition of the model itself, including paintwork, attached parts, repairs, visible wear and overall presentation. Box condition and missing separate accessories are noted separately where applicable.

Mint (10/10)
- As new, with no visible flaws to the model itself.

Near Mint (9/10)
- Very light signs of handling, storage or display only.

Excellent (8/10)
- Light wear or a few tiny marks, but still displays very well.

Very Good (7/10)
- Noticeable wear, small chips or rubs, but still presentable as a display piece.

Good (6/10)
- Obvious overall wear, visible marks or paint loss; better suited as a display or filler piece.

Fair (5/10)
- Heavy wear, larger areas of paint loss, repairs or clearly visible flaws.

Spares / Repairs (4/10 or below)
- Significant damage, missing attached parts, broken components or best suited for restoration/spares.

If a separate accessory, stand, leaflet, certificate or optional part is missing, this will be mentioned in the listing notes. The model may still receive a high grade if the model itself remains in strong condition.
