Description
A substantial 1:144 scale diecast representation of Boeing 377 Stratocruiser N1030V “Clipper America”, operated by Pan American World Airways during the luxurious opening years of post-war transatlantic aviation. Released as part of Corgi's Aviation Archive Classic Propliners range, model 48101 captures one of the largest and most prestigious piston-powered passenger airliners of its generation.
Pan American became the first airline to introduce the Boeing 377 Stratocruiser into scheduled passenger service. The aircraft was used on important long-distance routes across the Atlantic and Pacific, continuing the airline's tradition of giving its flagship aircraft individual “Clipper” names.
N1030V carried the name “Clipper America” during its early service. The model recreates the aircraft in Pan Am's polished natural-metal finish with a white upper fuselage, blue cheatlines, prominent PAN AMERICAN WORLD AIRWAYS lettering and the airline's globe emblem on the tail.
The Boeing 377 was developed from the military C-97 Stratofreighter and ultimately traced its structural ancestry to the B-29 Superfortress. Its unusually deep double-lobed fuselage provided an expansive main passenger cabin together with a lower-deck lounge reached by a spiral staircase.
The Stratocruiser offered sleeping berths, pressurisation and an exceptionally spacious interior, making it one of the most luxurious airliners of the late 1940s and 1950s. Its four enormous Pratt & Whitney Wasp Major radial engines provided impressive performance but also made the aircraft expensive and demanding to operate.
This sizeable Corgi model features extensive diecast construction, authentic Pan American markings, clear cockpit glazing and permanently printed cabin windows. Additional features include four rotating propellers, removable landing gear and the original Corgi Aviation Archive presentation display stand.
