Description

A substantial 1:144 scale diecast representation of United States Air Force Lockheed VC-121B Constellation 48-608, carrying the service marking 0-80608. Released as an early issue within the Corgi Aviation Archive range, model 47506 recreates the elegant four-engine military transport historically known as “Dewdrop”.

The Lockheed Constellation was originally developed as a fast, long-range passenger aircraft. Its distinctive dolphin-shaped fuselage, triple-fin tail and graceful wing design made it one of the most recognisable transport aircraft of the post-war era.

Military versions of the Constellation were adopted by the United States Air Force for passenger transport, cargo operations, VIP travel and specialist duties. The VC-121 designation was applied to aircraft equipped for transporting senior military personnel and other important passengers.

Aircraft 48-608 was constructed as a military Constellation and carried the later visible service marking 0-80608. Historical records associate the aircraft with the name “Dewdrop”, although the original Corgi presentation primarily identifies it as a United States Air Force Constellation.

The model recreates the polished natural-metal finish associated with early USAF transport aircraft, together with American national insignia, USAF titles and the aircraft's individual identification markings. The four radial engines, triple tail and long curved fuselage capture the unmistakable appearance of the real aircraft.

This early Corgi Aviation Archive release features extensive diecast construction, fine printed surface markings, four rotating propellers, clear cockpit glazing, removable landing gear and the original multi-position presentation display stand.

Grading

Grading Criteria

Our grading is based mainly on the physical condition of the model itself, including paintwork, attached parts, repairs, visible wear and overall presentation. Box condition and missing separate accessories are noted separately where applicable.

Mint (10/10)
- As new, with no visible flaws to the model itself.

Near Mint (9/10)
- Very light signs of handling, storage or display only.

Excellent (8/10)
- Light wear or a few tiny marks, but still displays very well.

Very Good (7/10)
- Noticeable wear, small chips or rubs, but still presentable as a display piece.

Good (6/10)
- Obvious overall wear, visible marks or paint loss; better suited as a display or filler piece.

Fair (5/10)
- Heavy wear, larger areas of paint loss, repairs or clearly visible flaws.

Spares / Repairs (4/10 or below)
- Significant damage, missing attached parts, broken components or best suited for restoration/spares.

If a separate accessory, stand, leaflet, certificate or optional part is missing, this will be mentioned in the listing notes. The model may still receive a high grade if the model itself remains in strong condition.
