After taking command of Jagdstaffel 11 in January 1917, he adopted increasingly prominent red markings for his personal aircraft, allowing both friendly and opposing pilots to identify him easily in the air.

King & Country presented this aircraft in a striking all-red finish with period-style German national crosses across the wings and fuselage. The relatively restrained markings allow the aircraft's elegant plywood-covered fuselage, broad biplane wings and unmistakable profile to remain the centre of attention.

The Albatros D.V entered service during 1917 as the final major development of the successful Albatros single-seat fighter family. It incorporated a streamlined plywood-covered fuselage and was powered by a water-cooled Mercedes inline engine. Its armament consisted of two synchronised 7.92 mm machine guns mounted directly in front of the cockpit.

Although the D.V experienced structural concerns surrounding its lower-wing arrangement, it remained an important German fighter during the latter half of 1917. The strengthened D.Va subsequently continued in frontline service until increasing numbers of Fokker D.VII fighters became available during 1918.

The large 1:30 scale gives the aircraft considerable display presence and allows its distinctive construction to be reproduced in impressive detail. Features include the hand-painted red finish, detailed open cockpit, twin forward-firing machine guns, engine and radiator detailing, fixed undercarriage, interplane struts, external bracing wires and a separate propeller assembly.

Produced in a very small edition of only 150 aircraft and retired shortly after its August 2011 release, FW098A is now one of the scarcer King & Country First World War aviation models. This example is supplied as the aircraft only and does not include a separate Manfred von Richthofen pilot figure.

Fact Sheet

Brand: King & Country

Series: The Great War / Flight of Eagles

Model Code: FW098A

Aircraft: Albatros D.V

Associated Pilot: Rittmeister Manfred von Richthofen

Pilot Nickname: The Red Baron

Associated Unit: Jagdstaffel 11

Operator: Luftstreitkräfte, Imperial German Air Service

Conflict: First World War

Theatre: Western Front

Date/Period: 1917

Scale: 1:30

Limited Edition Size: 150 aircraft worldwide

Release Date: August 2011

Status: Retired

Set Contents: Albatros D.V aircraft only

Pilot Figure: Not included

Country of Manufacture: China

Material: Hand-painted mixed-media construction with metal, resin, polystone and detailed sub-components

Special Features: Extremely low production run, all-red Manfred von Richthofen livery, period German national markings, detailed open cockpit, twin machine guns, engine and radiator detail, fixed undercarriage, interplane struts, external bracing wires and separate propeller assembly

Model Dimensions

Length: Approximately 9.6" or 24.4 cm

Width (Wingspan): Approximately 11.8" or 30 cm

Condition

Model Condition - Mint (10/10)

The model is in mint pre-owned condition overall.

Box condition - Excellent (8/10)

The box is in excellent condition for its age, with some shelf wear present to the edges and corners.

Photographed under studio lighting to highlight even the smallest imperfections.
