Description

This 1:72 scale diecast model represents the Supermarine Spitfire PR Mk IB operated by No. 212 Squadron, Royal Air Force. The squadron was re-formed at Heston on February 10, 1940, to conduct strategic photographic reconnaissance missions in France in coordination with the Photographic Development Unit.

Originally intended to operate three detachments of three camera-equipped Spitfires, No. 212 was instead equipped with Blenheims due to equipment shortages. After several operational missions, the squadron evacuated France and was absorbed into the Photographic Development Unit on June 18, 1940. It was formally redesignated as the Photographic Reconnaissance Unit in July.
