Description

The holy grail of British aviation history and Cold War "what-ifs." This magnificent 1:72 scale diecast model by Corgi (AA38601) replicates the ill-fated British Aircraft Corporation BAC TSR.2 Prototype #1 (XR219), which made its historic first flight from the Aeroplane and Armament Experimental Establishment (A&AEE) at Boscombe Down on September 27, 1964. Designed as an ultra-advanced, supersonic low-altitude strike and reconnaissance aircraft, the TSR.2 was envisioned as the absolute backbone of the RAF’s future power. Tragically, political maneuverings led to the highly controversial cancellation of the entire program in 1965, with orders given to destroy the airframes. XR219 itself was eventually reduced to target practice scrap, leaving this model as a haunting monument to what could have been the highest-performing aircraft of its type in the world.

Ideal for curators of Cold War history and legendary prototype aircraft, this Aviation Archive Collector Series release serves as a definitive historical artifact. The model is an absolute powerhouse of engineering, built almost entirely of solid diecast metal and weighing over one and a half pounds. Key design details include accurately rendered gold-tinted pilot and navigator windows with a clear forward windscreen, a small high-speed delta wing with distinct down-turned wingtips, detailed afterburner turbojet exhausts, and rolling landing gear that features a unique rotating main gear assembly. Complete with a heavy-duty, all-metal presentation stand to display this magnificent white bird in flight, this premium model is a crowning jewel for any elite aviation gallery.

Grading

Grading Criteria

Our grading is based mainly on the physical condition of the model itself, including paintwork, attached parts, repairs, visible wear and overall presentation. Box condition and missing separate accessories are noted separately where applicable.

Mint (10/10)
- As new, with no visible flaws to the model itself.

Near Mint (9/10)
- Very light signs of handling, storage or display only.

Excellent (8/10)
- Light wear or a few tiny marks, but still displays very well.

Very Good (7/10)
- Noticeable wear, small chips or rubs, but still presentable as a display piece.

Good (6/10)
- Obvious overall wear, visible marks or paint loss; better suited as a display or filler piece.

Fair (5/10)
- Heavy wear, larger areas of paint loss, repairs or clearly visible flaws.

Spares / Repairs (4/10 or below)
- Significant damage, missing attached parts, broken components or best suited for restoration/spares.

If a separate accessory, stand, leaflet, certificate or optional part is missing, this will be mentioned in the listing notes. The model may still receive a high grade if the model itself remains in strong condition.

For a full breakdown on how we grade models, please refer to our Condition Grading page.
